Ted Marschall - Black Dog Alumni

Black Dog congratulates Ted on yet another successful season

The Carleton College men’s swimming and diving team rallied late Saturday evening to finish third at the 2008 MIAC Championships, the programs best finish ever at the event. Ted Marschall (Jr./ Black Dog Swimming Alumni) was named the men’s MIAC Swimmer of the Year. He picked up his third individual title of the weekend in this evening’s competition, pulling away from the field in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:03.28, just shy of his meet record time set in the morning preliminaries.

Heading into the evening’s final race, the 400 freestyle relay, the Knights were clinging to a slim six-point advantage in the battle for third place. Marschall’s anchor leg propelled Carleton’s relay passed Hamline and Saint John’s, enough to secure the team’s third-place finish overall.

Ted Marschall broke his own meet record with a 3:57.11 in the 400 IM, good for a 10-second victory. It was his third consecutive conference title in the event, and he swept the individual medley races this year.

In the 800 freestyle, Marschall's anchor leg was the third-fastest among all the swimmers, bested only by Gustavus sprinters Matt Stewart  (also a Black Dog Alumni) and Ben Hanson who finished 1-2 in the 200 freestyle earlier.
